Homocysteine, Plasma: Measures homocysteine levels; elevated levels may suggest impaired folate, vitamin B12, or vitamin B6 metabolism.
CBC (Complete Blood Count) with Differential: Evaluates red and white blood cells and platelets; helps identify anemia and provides red blood cell indices that may suggest macrocytic changes associated with vitamin B12 or folate deficiency.
MMA (Methylmalonic Acid): Helps assess vitamin B12 status; elevated levels can indicate a functional vitamin B12 deficiency, even when serum B12 appears normal.
Vitamin B12: Measures circulating vitamin B12, which is important for red blood cell production, neurologic function, and DNA synthesis; low levels may indicate deficiency.
Folate: Measures folate status, which is essential for red blood cell production and DNA synthesis; low levels may contribute to macrocytic anemia and elevated homocysteine.
