The Iron and TIBC (Total Iron Binding Capacity) test evaluates iron levels and the blood’s ability to transport and bind iron. It is used to help diagnose and monitor conditions like iron deficiency anemia, iron overload disorders (e.g., hemochromatosis), or other issues affecting iron metabolism. The TIBC test helps assess transferrin levels, which indicate how well your body is transporting iron. Together, these tests provide a clearer picture of iron balance and storage in the body. This tests for:

• TIBC & Transferrin Saturation: Assesses iron transport and availability in the bloodstream.

• Serum Iron: Indicates the amount of circulating iron.

• Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity

This lab is intended to be 8-12 hour calorie-fasted,  but please ensure adequate hydration. It is recommended to skip iron supplements for (24) hours prior to this test.

A provider will approve your labs, and your Lab Requisition Form will be emailed to you within 24 business hours. Labcorp will also have this on file. Please bring a valid photo ID to your nearest Labcorp location. Results will be securely emailed as soon as they are available.
