This panel is curated to assess adrenal function:
DHEA-S (Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate):
Measures adrenal androgen production, which reflects adrenal function and can help identify abnormalities in adrenal hormone production.
Morning Serum Cortisol:
Evaluates cortisol levels at their peak in the morning, which is crucial for diagnosing adrenal insufficiency or overproduction (such as in Cushing’s syndrome).
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP):
Checks electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate), kidney function, and glucose levels. Abnormalities in these parameters may suggest adrenal dysfunction, as adrenal hormones play a role in electrolyte and fluid balance.
Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c):
Assesses long-term blood sugar control, which can be influenced by cortisol dysregulation (as seen in adrenal disorders like Cushing’s or Addison’s disease).
Aldosterone Levels:
This hormone helps regulate blood pressure and electrolyte balance, and its levels can help identify conditions like primary aldosteronism or adrenal insufficiency.
Highly Recommended Option:
ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone):
Measures the pituitary gland’s signal to the adrenal glands to produce cortisol. This test is essential in distinguishing between primary adrenal insufficiency (Addison’s disease) and secondary causes (pituitary dysfunction).
Calorie-fasting is optional for this test based on blood glucose requirements, but please ensure adequate hydration.
