The Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test measures the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland, in the blood. It is primarily used to screen for and monitor prostate cancer, as elevated levels may indicate cancer, an enlarged prostate (BPH), or prostate inflammation (prostatitis). The test helps detect prostate issues early, even before symptoms appear, and monitor treatment effectiveness in those diagnosed with prostate conditions. Elevated PSA levels don’t always mean cancer, so further evaluation is often needed. This lab tests for:
