This isolation 17-OH Progesterone test is used to assess the function of the adrenal glands and, to a lesser extent, the ovaries or testes. It is an intermediate product in the production of cortisol and androgens. It can be used to help diagnose and monitor congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), a genetic disorder affecting cortisol production. It also helps evaluate adrenal gland function, investigate symptoms of androgen excess (like hirsutism or irregular periods), and differentiate between adrenal or ovarian causes of hormonal imbalances. Elevated levels may indicate adrenal dysfunction, CAH, or tumors.

This test does not require fasting.
